MK Railway Carrier Cable of Contact Network
The task set by the management of Russian Railways was the development, manufacturing, and establishment of serial production of a Railway Catenary Messenger Wire with enhanced reliability, continuous current rating, and strength, while simultaneously having lower electrical resistance. This task was successfully accomplished by the team of the Industrial Technologies Center.
Simultaneous achievement of a whole range of properties has been ensured:
High mechanical strength and vibration resistance
Insignificant change in length with temperature fluctuations
Significantly higher operating currents and currents leading to overheating tolerance
High electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance
Superior aerodynamic characteristics
Standard diameters and compatibility with standard fittings
High manufacturability in serial production without a significant increase in the cost of the final product
Thanks to their design (high torsional rigidity), the wires ensure less snow accumulation and ice formation.
Application Areas: Sverdlovsk, West Siberian, East Siberian, and South Ural Railways
The design ensures a reduction in power losses compared to the series-produced BZ I design by 11.35% and compared to the BZ II 120 design by 19.7%.
The technical solution has been recognized with a diploma from the Chief Engineer of Russian Railways.
